Sofia returned toMiami and visitedMarlins Park for Opening Day
Miami, FL (April 4, 2012) — She visited all 30 MLB Ballparks by the time she was eight months old, possibly making her the youngest child to do so in a regular baseball season. Now, three-years old, Sofia Coquis attended the official inauguration of Marlins Park on April 4th adding one more baseball cathedral to her list. Her attendance at the Miami Marlins Opening Day game against the St. Louis Cardinals was the 31st MLB ballpark the toddler visited.
“We were excited to go back home to South Florida and finally be able to see the Marlins play in a stadium built for baseball,” said Dad, Roberto Coquis. “Last time we saw the Marlins play it was in a fairly empty ‘football’ stadium. It was sad and disappointing,” said Coquis who says Land Shark Stadium was the 10th ballpark they visited during their 2009 family ballpark tour.
Thank you for visiting our website and learning more about our cross-country journey with our baby daughter, Sofia. Sometimes life gives you lemons and the best option is always to make lemonade! In other words, make the best of the situation that you have been given. We both got laid off in January of 2009, but were blessed in February of that year with a beautiful baby girl. After a series of failed job interviews, this crossroads in our life led us to the decision to make it a family-focused summer and fulfill Roberto's life-long dream to visit all 30 MLB ballparks. We drove 15,171 miles during our journey, ate more hotdogs than we care to mention, and broke even with a 15/15 record of wins and losses. But this trip was about more than just baseball. We turned the trip into a national job search and began collecting baseball items from the MLB teams raising over $2,500 to benefit the Women in Sports Foundation. Together we visited 38 states in our beautiful country, made lifelong friendships, and accomplished all of this as a family. In the end, our pilgrimage to the ballparks was about more than the game of baseball, but about what baseball can do. We welcome you to our website and learn more about our cross-country adventure and hope it offers inspiration.
